Board Update

The Board held its monthly meeting over Zoom last Wednesday 25th August, 2021.

COVID 19
Mark and the Golf Operations team continue to do a great job to provide golf to our members – either at Avondale or through one of our temporary reciprocal arrangements.  The steps remain unclear to move from our current situation to the return of all members, and we are ready to respond as information is provided.  The NSW Government announced last Thursday 26th August that gatherings of up to 5 fully vaccinated people are allowed outdoors from September 13th.  We are awaiting further advice to determine how this will be applied to golf.

Many members are asking what the club’s stance will be more broadly on COVID vaccination requirements.  As we noted last month, we will be guided by Government requirements, Golf NSW and Clubs NSW as the situation evolves.  If you are looking to receive a COVID vaccination, information is available at this link https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/health-and-wellbeing/covid-19-vaccination-nsw/get-your-covid-19-vaccination-nsw.

The Board continues to discuss options to recognise the fact that we have a large number of members who cannot attend the club.  At this stage, the level of uncertainty around COVID restrictions remains so great that we are not yet able to reach a decision that we can be confident is the right one.

Treatment of Staff
Sadly, we have recently had instances where staff have been spoken to rudely by members.   Your Board and staff are doing the best we can to support our club through these challenging times.  There is no excuse for members to be rude to staff and this behaviour will not be tolerated.  Any questions or concerns regarding COVID restrictions or club operations should be raised directly with Tim.

Strategic Plan
The Board met in April this year to draft the new Strategic Plan for the next several years.  Our intent had been to publish this plan to all members by now.  However, given the considerable change to our operating environment that COVID has caused – particularly the current Delta outbreak – we are going to take some time to reconfirm our plan and objectives before sharing with members.

Avondale Amateur
Planning for the Avondale Amateur in 2022 is underway.  The Organising Committee is now meeting monthly under the leadership of Tournament Director, Ian Skinner.  We are working on the basis that the tournament will go ahead, even though there are clearly quite a few unknowns around this at the present time.  The Committee will be guided by the Board’s broader decision on COVID vaccination requirements when it defines the final tournament conditions.

Board Succession and AGM
Discussions are progressing well regarding Board Succession this year, following on from the Expression of Interest sent to members a couple of months ago.  We expect to be able to announce the Board’s recommendation for incoming Directors within the next few weeks.

We are currently planning on the basis that the Club AGM will need to be held virtually.  The Corporations Act has recently been amended to allow for this to occur.  Of course, if restrictions ease adequately to enable a face to face AGM to be held, this remains the Board’s strong preference.  At this stage, the Ladies AGM is also likely to be held virtually.

I look forward to seeing all members around the club – or on a Zoom call – very soon,

Kerry Skellern
President
