Captain’s Update – Monday, 28 June

After the first few days of the current lockdown period I’m sure we’re all grateful that we can continue to exercise by playing golf, unlike so many others whose sports been cancelled or severely curtailed.

My thanks go to the Board members and staff who’ve given their time so generously as we continue to monitor and respond to rapidly evolving government health regulations and Golf NSW directives, in order to keep our Members safe and active at Avondale.

The Match Committee have assessed the current Golf Operations conditions and have made the following amendments:

Round limitations for each Member category will be as follows:

  • Full 5: A maximum of 4 bookings per week (competition or social) and exclusive use of the course and facilities on Saturdays
  • Full 4: A maximum of 3 bookings per week (competition or social)
  • All other categories: A maximum of 2 bookings per week

For the purpose of counting your rounds, the first week commences today and runs to Sunday, 4 July inclusive.

Members under the age of 19 have been advised that they cannot book in for golf this coming weekend, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th July, before 2.00pm. Scholarship players are exempt from this measure.

Please note that the use of Club practice facilities is limited to players entered on the time sheet, for 30 minutes only before your tee time. As communicated on June 26, all golf is via time sheet bookings. Please do not attend the Club unless you are booked in for golf. Members are advised that the club house is closed other than for toilet access or to purchase takeaway food and beverage. Members should leave after the completion of their round.

On advice from Golf NSW, Members are permitted to ride in pairs in golf carts, providing they are wearing face masks. However, if you are uncomfortable sharing a cart, you may ride alone. This will be subject to golf cart availability. In the event of taking a cart alone, you will only be charged half the normal cart fee.

Members who miss out on securing a competition round for a particular day will be given an automatic booking for the same day of the following week. In order for this to be processed, please ensure that your name is on the waitlist, with your specific time request. If you are able to secure a 12 hole competition booking, you can automatically secure an 18 hole competition booking for the next week. To confirm this, please email golfops@avondalegolfclub.com.au

The waitlist and timesheet will be closed at 6.00pm the night before each round, and the system will no longer auto fill after that time. If you are planning to withdraw please do so by 6.00pm the night before your round. In the event of withdrawal on the day, please call the Pro shop. For withdrawals between 6.00pm the night before and the Pro shop opening times, please confirm via email; golfops@avondalegolfclub.com.au

The measures introduced on Saturday, 26 June for scorecards, rakes and flagsticks will continue.

I trust that you are enjoying your golf in these difficult times.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss any of these matters addressed in my update today.
