Board Update

The Board held its first monthly meeting for the calendar year on Wednesday 27th January, 2021.

Here are some key discussion topics from the meeting and other activities this week.

COVID-19 :
Unfortunately our start to 2021 did not quite go to plan, with the cancellation of the Avondale Amateur due to the COVID outbreak in Sydney over the Christmas period. We look forward to hosting the Avondale Amateur as a bigger and better event in 2022.

Thankfully, the situation has improved significantly in Sydney at this time, and we have been able to return to most of our activities at the club.  Mark and the Match Committee will continue to provide updates on golf operations procedures.  Within the clubhouse, we have been delighted to welcome visitors back to the club.  The main restriction still impacting our clubhouse operations is the 1 person per 4 m2 rule, which limits the total numbers we are able to have in the clubhouse to 130 (including staff).  Based on recent announcements by the NSW Premier, we are hopeful this might ease to the 1 person per 2 m2 rule within 2 weeks.  Again, we appreciate the understanding of all members as we continue to implement limits on numbers when required.

Friday Night Dining :
We are continuing our later opening hours for the kitchen and clubhouse from Thursday to Sunday nights.  In particular, we are starting to see some great interest in dinner at the club on Friday evenings.  Last Friday 22nd January, we had 65 people dine at the club.  This was around 3 times the size of our typical Friday evening, and we did experience some service issues, including unacceptably long wait times for dinner to be served.  The Board wishes to apologise to those members who were impacted last Friday.  We are now reviewing our staff and kitchen rostering to ensure we have sufficient staff available to provide the service we would all like to receive at our club.

Staff Changes:
As announced last week, David Warwick has decided to move on from Avondale to the next phase of his life.  It is really the end of an era for Avondale, and for David.  Our course is now vastly improved from 25 years ago when David started in his role.  We continue to work through a transition plan for the course superintendent role, and planning for recruitment for the permanent replacement is underway.  We are also considering an appropriate member function to provide the opportunity for us all to thank David for his contribution.  As members will appreciate, we are hoping very much that COVID restrictions ease as planned in NSW so we are able to include more members in this event.

We are also about to begin recruiting for our Front of House Manager position.

IT Upgrade:
Our IT Upgrade is progressing well, moving towards a March implementation timeline.  This is a major project for our club, which will provide a significantly improved experience for our members.  However, we do anticipate that there will be some challenges along the way and appreciate that all members will support our staff as we implement the new systems.

I look forward to seeing everyone around the club soon.

President
