Board Update – April

Board Update

The Board held its monthly meeting on Wednesday 29th April, 2020.

Here are some key discussion topics from the meeting and other activities this week:

Random Draw
The first draw for random allocation of access to the daily timesheet was run last night, Friday 1st May, for play next Wednesday 6th May. The draw ran well, and achieved the aim of providing controlled and random access to the timesheet.  This system will continue – details can be found on the website and under the “Book Golf” tab.  Members might be interested to know that, at the peak of activity last night, there were 464 active sessions on the website – that’s almost one third of all Avondale members!  Of course, some people may have had multiple sessions open, and we know members may have joined just to have a look at the process – but this gives you a guide as to the level of activity we are working with during these times.

Preparation for relaxation of COVID-19 Restrictions
As I write this update, there has been no change to the restrictions relating to our operations both on the course and within the clubhouse due to COVID-19. However, the Board, working with the WH&S Committee, is preparing for the progressive relaxation of restrictions around social gatherings that is being signaled by the Federal Government. We are aiming to be prepared for a range of scenarios so we can return both the course and clubhouse to increased activity – safely – as restrictions allow.  It is to be expected, however, that social distancing will be with us for quite some time.

Finances
Our club remains in a strong financial position. We have applied for the Federal Government’s JobKeeper package and are confident we meet the criteria for support. This will be confirmed in the coming week. Warren will provide a more comprehensive update to members by mid June.

Our club community
There are a wide range of activities running for our members to keep us all connected to the club whilst our golfing and social activities there are curtailed. The Virtual Avondale site continues to provide a wide range of interesting information and ideas for things to do during isolation (www.virtualavondale.com). Our hampers are also very popular, and great value. Have a look on the website for the Mother’s Day Special Hamper for next week. The next Trivia night scheduled for May 13th is already fully subscribed. We also have members checking in on others in our club community who are isolated at home, to check if there is anything the club can do to assist them. I think we can all be immensely proud of how our club is demonstrating its strong sense of community in the face of such significant challenges.

I would like to make particular mention of our staff – Tim and the whole team. Almost every day over the last month or so has brought a new set of changes and adjustments that have needed to be made in order to keep the club operating safely. The team has stepped up each time and done whatever was needed  – thank you. And how great is it to see our casual staff returning to the club! I know they are pleased to be back and we are very glad to see them.

See you all around the club soon,

Kerry Skellern
President
