Changes to the Golf Booking System – 30 April

Following a thorough analysis of recent patterns in bookings and play during COVID-19, the Match Committee has agreed on a range of changes to our current booking process and weekly golf program. As previously communicated, these temporary changes are in line with government regulations relating to the current health crisis, and they will continue to be assessed by the Match Committee.

The Board’s overall aim is to provide fair access to the golf course to all Members in accordance with their membership category. We do not believe the current situation is providing this, and we understand the deep frustration felt by many Members.

These revisions include the introduction of additional competitions, revised allocations for Members’ weekly play and a significant change to the online booking process.

The changes to the booking system will take effect with bookings from Friday 1 May at 6.30pm, with the first day of play under these new conditions to be Wednesday 6 May.

Weekly Golf Program
The current program for Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays will continue unchanged.

Revisions
Mondays: Competition Golf for Men and Ladies, with specific tee times:

  • Men 6.45-8.45am
  • Ladies 8.45-9.45am
  • Men 9.45am-1.15pm
  • Social play 1.15pm onwards

Wednesdays: All day Social play commencing at 7am (previously 9am)
Fridays: Competition Golf for Ladies from 6.45am until 11.15am, Social play from 11.15am

Intervals will be 6 minutes for the first 4 hours each day, followed by 7 minute intervals.

Allocation Changes
Six and Seven Day Members are limited to 3 bookings each week, with a maximum of 2 rounds before 1.15pm, subject to the normal conditions for each category of Membership.

All other Members are limited to 2 bookings per week, with a maximum of 1 round before 1.15pm, subject to the normal conditions for each category of Membership.

All Members are limited to 1 round per weekend.

Starter’s times have been removed from the timesheet.

There is no change to the requirement that players arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to their booked round.

The weekly allocation basis remains a rolling 7 day period. That is, in any consecutive 7 days you can’t exceed your allocation.

We are considering a program to increase access to practice facilities, however we are not implementing this at this stage.

Once the time sheet is locked at 12pm two days prior, the booking will stand and count towards the player’s allocation irrespective of inclement weather.

Changed Booking Procedure
The booking procedure will now be via random allocation. This system is deemed to provide fairer access to all members. The change is also designed to reduce the pressure around the 6.30pm booking process.

Many clubs around Australia have adopted this system recently.

Members who were unsuccessful in securing a booking should put their name on the waitlist. If you are not successful in moving onto the timesheet from the waitlist, you will be manually moved onto the timesheet for the same day the following week, prior to the start of the ballot. The ballot will open only for the remaining tee times.

This system will take effect for all play starting on Wednesday 6 May. The timesheet for Wednesday 6 May will open Friday 1 May at 6.30pm. Timesheets will continue to open 5 days prior.

Details of the random allocation system can be found by clicking here

The Match Committee will continue to monitor the booking system and the allocation of tee times for our Members.

I would like to thank all Members for your understanding and co-operation with these new conditions for golf at Avondale. We all hope that recent improvements in the health crisis will mean that we revert to more normal golfing conditions very soon.

I trust that you are all staying safe and healthy during these very challenging times.
