Covid 19 Update

The Board Executive along with representatives from the WHS Committee and senior management met last night to further review the current state of affairs in relation to the Club’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Board’s position is that we will be endeavouring to undertake all steps to maintain operations to the extent possible for members.

We will be following all government guidelines and directives (including limiting indoor gatherings to 100 people) to make Avondale as safe as possible. However, each member has to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and make their own decisions to attend the golf club based on the advice they have received.

To prioritise and maximise members’ access to the Club, the following measures are being implemented immediately.

  • The Club will close to all non-members. All external events and members’ ability to bring guests to the club for golf or food and beverage purposes will cease immediately. Should you have any existing arrangements already in place we ask that you communicate this change to your guests. The only exceptions to this will be the Ladies Clinic Program and the Men’s Pathway Program, which will continue.
  • The above restriction also applies to reciprocal members. A number of clubs on our list have already implemented this restriction and we will be communicating this measure to all reciprocal clubs shortly.
  • In addition, all organised Club functions have been cancelled for the foreseeable future, including next Friday night’s BBQ.
  • The Junior Cadet Program will be suspended immediately and for the foreseeable future.
  • The use of timesheets is being considered for all competition days. No shotgun starts will be scheduled. The Captain will be releasing a separate statement on the operation and implementation of the use of timesheets going forward. Additional timesheets will not be implemented with less than 1 week’s notice.
  • Bubblers will be disabled but we will leave the water taps on so drink bottles can be refilled. However it is strongly recommended that members bring their own water bottles filled from home. Where possible, members are encouraged to bring their own portable use sanitiser to wipe down touchpoints on course such as flagsticks, sand bucket handles, pull buggy handles and range basket handles.
  • All buffets, cheeseboards, nuts and other shared food items will not be served. Should you wish to purchase crisps or hot chips please request multiple bowls to minimise potential transmission.
  • Additional touch point sanitisation has been instigated at the Club and will be completed on a daily basis.
  • The Club will continue to provide sanitiser in the Clubhouse where possible. We are also experiencing some supply chain issues on certain products as a result of panic buying.
  • Contingency planning is underway with opportunities for staff to work from home where possible and for teams to work separately to minimise potential transmissions reducing the risk of a full shutdown to operations.

I would also like to take this time to remind members of the social distancing protocols being implemented. Where possible please keep 1.5 metres away from others. This will be easier on the golf course. In the clubhouse, as events will be ceasing, the tables and chairs will be spread throughout the building. Please assist by spreading out through the clubhouse more generally. Please refrain from shaking hands, pats on the back or other social contact. In recent days a number of members have been visibly upset by inadvertent handshakes etc. It is a difficult habit that will need to be curtailed in the light of current circumstances.

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, use the hand sanitiser provided.
  • If you have travelled recently, please observe the latest travel self-isolation guidelines.

If you are sick, please stay away from the Club. This is essential and self-discipline is extremely important.

The Club’s Board is meeting on a regular basis to review the current situation and put in place any required further actions.

Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.
