Board Update

The Board held its monthly meeting on Wednesday 29th July, 2020.

Here are some key discussion topics from the meeting and other activities this week. I think much of this news has been covered separately, so I am providing a few highlights:

Pro Shop
Friday July 31st, 2020, marks the end of an era at Avondale. Today, Mark Paterson will step down as Head Professional at Avondale after 32 years. The Paterson family has become part of the fabric of our club, and we are delighted that Ben will be taking over the position as Head Professional. Mark will still be around to support Ben as his assistant. We will be looking to hold a member celebration event for Mark’s contribution to the club as soon as the COVID restrictions allow.

Course Congestion
As noted in Mark’s recent update, we are seeing some easing in course congestion but continue to pay close attention in this area. The weekly playing schedule as part of the new category implementation comes into place from 1st August as planned. I encourage you to read Mark’s recent update for full details on golf operations and the current playing conditions.  In case you missed it, you can find it again here

House Committee
The House Committee has been working hard on a number of projects over the last several months. Warren will be issuing a detailed update next week. Look out for the new bistro style dining on Friday evenings and Sunday lunch, which will be launching in mid August. We also had a meeting with the House Forum this week – the extended group of members who volunteered to give us input into House last year.  We are close to finalising the plan to add some finishing touches to the clubhouse, with the assistance of an interior designer. Warren will provide full detail next week.

Staff Changes
Members will have noted in Tim’s update yesterday that we have had several staff changes in the office. Hayley has been promoted to the role of Golf Operations Manager, and we look forward to working with her in this new capacity. Dean has moved on from Avondale, and we thank him for his commitment to the club and wish him all the best in the future. Amanda Gower will be joining us in the role of Events & Marketing Manager from mid August. She comes to Avondale with a strong background in events management in golf clubs, and her initial focus will be member events during the COVID operating environment. We are also close to appointing an interim resource to help us fast track our efforts in Workplace, Health and Safety. We have some work to do in this area to bring our systems, procedures and training up to the standard we need for our club – thanks to the WHS Committee who have worked hard in this area to highlight our issues.

See you all around the club and on the course soon,

Kerry Skellern
President
